Let’s go over some simple hair do’s and don’ts for your portrait session!

Do -

  • style your hair in a way that’s “normal” for you
  • choose hair accessories that complement your clothes
  • use a moderate amount of hair styling product
  • bring extra hair supplies (product and accessories) to your session, just in case

Don’t -

  • decide to get a new style right before your portrait session. You won’t look like YOU.
  • do the helmet head hairspray look
  • go overboard on the hair accessories. Bows the size of dinner plates are never appropriate.

Let’s talk shoes. (I hear women everywhere applauding!) When it comes to portraits, usually barefoot is best but what do you do when the weather or the location or the clothing style calls for shoes? For styles like these from Old Navy which we suggest wearing with jeans or other simple pants, a great pair of boots, simple slip-on leather style for men or women or kids, and for girls big and small, ballerina flats. Try Piper Lime (Gap’s shoe division) for some great picks!

Today marks the beginning of the Fall series of Fashionista Fridays! For the next 5 weeks we’ll be bringing you coordinating fashions from GAP and Old Navy – but really, these ideas will translate to any stores. It’s all about coordinating colors, not the actual clothing items themselves. Learning to mix colors and blending in a single color palette so that YOU are the focus of your family portrait and not your clothing  – it’s an art and a science and I’m here to help.

Using the palette boxes on the left, you can see exactly what colors to use for accessories and be sure to keep bottoms very simple. Brown, khaki, black, navy, or denim. TADA!

You met Barry in the “Jam-Packed July” edition of the newsletter and I wanted to share more about Barry here on the blog. He was such a huge help in selling our Cincinnati home – wish we could move him to Arizona with us but I’ll leave him for my Cincinnati friends and get to visit him when I’m back in town.

Barry says:

I am a lifelong Cincinnati resident, born and raised in Amberley Village. I attended Cincinnati Country Day School and Washington University in St. Louis where I received my MBA. My wonderful wife Ann and I reside in the Village of Montgomery with our son Gil who is a student in the Sycamore School District.

My real estate career began in 1987 with one goal: To be acknowledged by my clients as the real estate agent who creates TRUST by delivering services with the highest degree of QUALITY, VALUE and INTEGRITY.

My achievements include:
Cincinnati Area Board of Realtors: Circle of Excellence Million Dollar Club
Ohio Association of Realtors: Presidents’ Sales Club

Working with Barry has been FABULOUS! With a husband who travels frequently, four small kids, and a thriving business, selling a home could be a nightmare and Barry worked so hard to make it as easy on us as possible. Fast results, great communication, helpful every step of the way, and just flat out awesome is how I’d have to describe Barry’s work. I was truly comfortable with trusting him to sell our home and that says a lot.

He made lots of suggestions on making our home selling-ready, looking at it as a buyer would see it. Barry listens and you know how important that is. I mean he really LISTENED to our concerns. He’s also very straight-forward and doesn’t snowball you with salesman fancytalk. That no-BS attitude is pure ME and something I appreciate! Give it to me straight, you know?

Thanks, Barry!

Once again celebrating our move to a place where they put the H in HEAT (but remember, it’s a DRY heat… like that’s going to matter when it’s 200 degrees in the shade ::snort::), here are some cool and breezy outfits for the family from Old Navy. You’ll look cool even in the DRY heat of Phoenix or the HUMID heat of Cincinnati summers.

Don’t you feel all cool and breezy after looking at these outfits? I sure do!
